Wheeling has developed more NHL talent than any other team in ECHL history. As of the end of the 2020-21 season, 65 former Nailers/Thunderbirds reached the NHL, with 59 doing so as players and six as either coaches, trainers, equipment managers, broadcasters, or officials.
